Access to Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) services is a fundamental right and is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations General Assembly. Especially, the women and children from poor backgrounds are affected the most due to the fewer toilets in public areas. It is a fact that when women step out of their homes, they are neither alone nor are their needs limited to having a clean place to relieve themselves.
The PINK Toilet Program is conceptually designed to provide safe, accessible, environment-friendly, self-sustaining and multi-purpose WASH facilities for women, children and differently-abled people. Apart from providing restroom facilities, the vision is to utilise the spaces for raising awareness about health and hygiene; access points for various essential services and act as a focal point for sensitising the WASH champions as well as the users towards the WASH and waste management system.
